The action is perhaps the best feature of the McGrath Lures, which have their own characteristic shimmy. It is believed that plastic lures need a built in rattle implanted in them to attract fish, but timber lures have a natural resonance just like a violin, which alters with the shape and type of wood which sets McGrath Lures apart from its competitors.
The current design is the same as those produced when the business first started, proof of its success with lure fishermen. Developed locally in Australia for trout and freshwater natives they have grown to be a popular lure throughout the country and overseas. They work equally as well on high country trout as they do on cod, yellowbelly, bream, bass and flathead in the estuaries, to salmon and tailor along the coast and most places in between.
The original timber lures are available in four models, the Wide Body made from 25mm balsa wood blanks, and the Deep Diver, Shallow Runner and Mini made from 20mm blanks. They are fitted with locally made polycarbonate bibs, heavy duty hardware, chemically sharpened hooks and have a centre metal skeleton frame, stamped from zincalume steel sheet, set into the body. This is what gives the lure its enormous strength as all the hardware and tow point are on this centre metal skeleton frame making it virtually impossible for hooks and bibs to come adrift when a fisherman connects to a hoodlum size fish.
McGrath Lures Australia continues to be an Australian owned and run business based in the Albury Wodonga region. What sets McGrath Lures Australia apart from its competitors is our design that was built by fishermen for fishermen. This understanding of what it’s like to be a dedicated angler is what makes the difference when it comes to designing, testing and manufacturing lures.
McGrath Lures Australia is actively seeking to expand to the export markets. All trade enquires from Australian and overseas distributors are most welcome. |
